NO Record of Wrongs
1COR 13:4-7
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Notice the last 6 words of verse 5. "it keeps NO record of wrongs."
This, I believe is the ultimate description of Jesus' love for us. He keeps no record of wrongs. He has set the supreme example for love by His ultimate forgiveness on the cross. Consider this: We mocked Him. Spit on Him. Ground thorns into His head. Cursed Him. Whipped Him. Made Him carry beams on His bloody back and climb a mountain. We drove nails through His flesh. Gave Him vinegar to drink. Hung Him in a place of humiliation for all the world to see. Speared Him in the side... and as the last drops of blood left His body, He begged His father to forgive us. He kept no record of our wrongs. He erases each sin against Him with His immeasurable love for us.
Do we do the same? How often when someone you love disappoints or angers you, do you retaliate with an account of some mistake that person made in the past? "Oh yeah? Well, remember the time you forgot my birthday?" or "Remember the time you said ______?" We bring up past mistakes, or past failures to show that we will not forget that person's cross against us. We are keeping a record of wrongs that serves us no purpose other than to perpetuate anger and bitterness; a tool of the enemy, NOT of God.
Starting this minute, take that record of wrongs (those wrongs either against yourself, or someone you love) and take a good look at it. Is it really necessary to keep? Would you rather spend your time keeping records for the enemy - or loving like Jesus?
